Genealogy

I like the idea that all living people are connected by a complex web of shared ancestors.

Hopefully someday someone will make a web site that effectively aggregates the world's genealogical information. With that done, anyone with new information about part of the puzzle could go add their entries to the web site, linking up with previous entries by other people. Then you could do searches to see who your great-great-great-grandmother was, and where she lived, and what stories her other decendents have contributed about her.

Another neat thing you could do is see how you're related to anyone else in the world. For example, you would ask the web site something like "How am I related to Hillary Clinton?". The web site would do its best to find a connection, and then it would report the common ancestry.

Anyway, until the day when that big aggregate web site exists, here's as much of the puzzle as I know about, as compiled by my grandmother and my mom and her sister.
